Hyland and Murphy win Leinster titles

What a fantastic weekend of running for Cilles athletes.

Double gold for Murphy, Gold for Hyland. Silver for Smith, Silver for Brennan, Bronze for Hyland and Bronze for the other Smith.

Great performances from Doyle, Harrington and another Smith.

Aaron Smith ran the 3000m where he had an outstanding 9:43 performance to claim the silver medal only being out sprinted by Dunshaughlins Sean O'Connor, Brother Ciaran had a solid run in his 3000m.

Holly Brennan was first girl up on Saturday finishing 4th in the U17 800m, with Liam Hyland and James Smith in the U17 Boys 800m, it was an electrifying race with Liam neck and neck in the lead at the final bend and with a personal best of 2:04 finished 3rd to claim Bronze, James Smith 5th in 2:09

Lauren Murphy took the line in her 800m and was determined to run well. Laurens U18 race was run with the U19 race. Sarah Clarke the U19 athlete opened up with an very fast lap and Lauren stuck with her step for step all of the way, Lauren put in a huge effort to finish ahead in the final straight but the U19 broke the tape and Lauren won her U18 race in another PB of 2:18.

Kenneth Doyle ran a very competitive U18 boys 800m race to finish in 7th place and close out the action for Saturday.

The racing continued into Sunday and Alex Harrington did the 800m U15 race and Matched his 2:29.

The 1500m U17s with Holly Brennan was mixed with Lauren Murphy's U18 race and it really provided a great platform for these two very talented athletes to run well. In the U18 race Lauren matched her fine performance from the day before with another Gold medal and another PB in 4:52.

Holly who led the U17s race all of the way was caught on the final straight but did enough to claim silver and again go under 5min with a time of 4:58.

The Boys U17 1500m was very entertaining with James Smith putting in the kick of the weekend to claw himself back from the depths into 3rd place by photo finish and 6/100s of a second in 4:23, Aaron Smith finished in 5th in 4:33.

Ciaran Smith took to the 3000m steeplechase and ran another good race to get into contention with a lap to go the final water jump took more momentum from Ciaran and he finished in 4th place.

Liam Hyland claimed his first Leinster Gold in the 2000m steeplechase, he led from the start and with good pace and fluid jumping he streched his lead throughout the race to win in a time of 7:07.

It was again another very sucessful day at provincial level and it really shows that the hard work and dedication that these put into their sport leads to success.

Huge congrats to these young athletes with bright orange futures ahead of them.
