What a night in Navan!

Updated: Apr 29, 2019

The Meath Track and Field League kicked off last night and so did the Junior, Senior and Masters Championships.

There was a great bunch of Cilles athletes from U9 up to Juniors.

2 U9s in the 250m boys race were Daithi Dempsey and Charlie O'Flaherty both boys stormed around the track and had great runs.

In the U12s Chloe Healy had a brilliant run in her first race for Cilles and had a superb kick to finish 5th. Lucy Cleary who is no stranger to the track finished in 10th and Emma Filipak in her first race finished in style in her 300m race.

U13 girls move up the distance to 600m and Emma Doyle ran a steady first 400m and finished out with a super last 200m to finish 10th, the U13 boys ran 600m too and Cian Gibbons with his first track race for the club had a cracking race to finish 6th in his heat, Sean Hyland returned to the track in the other heat and ran a blistering race and finished 4th in a personal best time.

U14 girls ran 800m with Sarah Cleary showing bravery in a very fast opening lap and held good pace to finish 8th,

Shannon Cleary competed in the other 800m heat and ran a smashing race to finish 4th.

It was getting dark and the lights were turned on for the remainder of the night.

Alex Harrington stepped up to the U16 1500m and really showed his experience as he ran a fast and very tactical race to claim 2nd place.

Ellie Hanley Rice ran a in the Junior 100m Championship finishing 3rd in her heat with a PB

Ellie returned to the track with Siofra Murphy, Holly Brennan and Lauren Murphy in a very competitive Junior 800m Championship race. Holly made a big move with 250m left and showed great form to finish first with a PB, Lauren battled hard to the line and was a very close 2nd, Siofra Murphy really threw everything into her race and with a lightning finishing kick made up places to finish in 6th, Ellie after racing a PB in the 100m had a super race to finish in 8th place, it was a great season opener for these girls.

In the Junior Mens 800m race Kenneth Doyle finished 4th with Gavin Doyle in 6th and Darragh Collins in 7th and Sean Redmonds first track race who was 3yrs out of age finished an impressive 10th.

It was a night PBs for most of these guys and is great preperation for the season ahead.

Well done Cilles
