Sucess at the Meath Championship


The sun was shining in Navan today and Cilles ACs athletes basked In the sun and the glory in what was fantastic day of athletics.

The events were running a little late but they got underway with Shannon Cleary taking part in the Shot putt. Shannon threw very well and claimed the third spot and took home bronze, the first championship medal of the year. 


The was a string of Cilles athletes taking part throughout the day. Lucy Cleary & Evelin Scott running well in the 60m Kyle O'Brien and Fionn Lannon both having a fantastic run in their 60m race. Fionn O'Reilly ran the 80m race while Shannon Cleary and Derbhille Scott ran in the 80m race and showed great composure to the end. 


Cillian & Oisin Wade both threw very well in the turbo javelin and Oisin with a superb throw to Claim Silver and the second Medal of the day.

Ellie Hanley Rice was running in the 100m race to finish 6th,  Straight after Ellie and Evelyn Mullen both jumped the Long Jump. 

The next medal of the day came from Holly Brennan as she tried the U18 400m distance for the first time with a decent start Holly was in 3rd position at the final bend and put in an outstanding effort to close the gap and finish in first place by 6/100s of a second to take gold.


Liam Hyland and Kai Clancy were next up in the Boys U18 400m and Liam found himself in 6th position at the start. Liam showed great determination to push himself into contention with 100 to go and had the endurance to climb from 4th to 2nd to claim the silver medal. Kai had an impressive run to finish in a PB of 61sec

The Distance races started with Jonny Reilly and Oisin Wade representing Cilles in the U9 500m followed shortly after by Lucy Cleary in the 600m and Cillian Wade ran well in his 600m race. 

The U12 Boys 600m consisted of Daithi Wade and Shane Reilly, there was a great battle for 3rd place all through the last lap between these clubmates, it waa Shane who finished 3rd in his heat and Daithi 4th, Shane later realised that his time was good enough to claim overall bronze which was the 5th medal of the day for Cilles. Shannon Cleary ran a great 600m in her 3rd event of the day. 

Soon after Alex Harrington toed the line for his 1500m race. It was his finest performance to date with a superb time of 5:18. Evelyn Mullen was up next in her 1500m and again ran a fine race to finish in a time of 6:16. 


Aaron Smith and Kenneth Doyle both had superb runs where Aaron led out from the gun with Kenneth holding 3rd position. It was down to the final 200m where Aaron lost the lead to the eventual winner and came second with Kenneth hot on his heels in third place to claim Silver and Bronze respectfully.


Lauren Murphy closed out the day with a superb win, Lauren was in the leading pack for the first lap and decided to push on in the second lap, Laurens lead increased throughout the race and she won the Gold medal comfortably.

Congrats to all who came out to participate today it was great to see such a great group across all of the ages running for club,  family and friends.
